VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – UPDATE 10:00 PM -Canucks beat Sharks in double OT, 3-2 with Kevin Bieksa scoring the winner.   Vancouver Canucks fans have been waiting for this for a very long time.  Now they are heading back to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1994.  The Canucks eliminated the San Jose Sharks in the 2nd overtime period.

There have been some major differences between this series and the one against the Nashville Predators.  The Sedin twins had their troubles in the first two rounds but it looks like they’re back.

Many fans and critics thought the duo were no-shows through the first two rounds but the Sharks’ style of play bodes well for Henrik and Daniel.

Henrik has had a huge surge with 10 points in four games against San Jose.  He leads all players with 19 points (2g, 17a.)

In the last game he set a franchise record by notching three assists in one period.  He also got most assists in a playoff game with four helpers.

Daniel is really holding his own too.  He’s second among post-season performers with eight goals.

Overall, the stats speak for the Canucks.  They have the most goals against average, the top powerplay and is among the top three on the penalty kill.

Vancouver is getting help from all around with a strong blue-line. Roberto Luongo has been strong and scoring is coming from every line.

The Clarence Campbell Bowl will be in the house for tonight’s game.  The trophy goes to the top team in the West.  It’s unknown if the Canucks will touch it, should the Bowl be handed out.

Police expect big crowds to gather

Surrey RCMP are expecting a record crowd on 72 Ave. and Scott Road if the Canucks move on to the Stanley Cup Final tonight.

Cpl. Drew Grainger says they’re bringing in extra officers and they’re prepared to close down the intersection if necessary.

“We are well-prepared for the expected crowds tonight. We have a number of officers dedicated to this area, as we have in the weeks past,” he explains.

Vancouver police will have extra officers on duty tonight as well.

News1130 Sports Director Ann Schmaltz will be at Rogers Arena for tonight’s big game.  She’ll have end of period wrap-ups and full analysis.
